Ecotourism
The term Ecotourism already has several decades since its conception and currently true ecotourism represents a viable option to the people's natural and cultural heritage, promoting at the same time the notion of a sustainable economic development. One could say it's a form of responsible tourism. (Héctor Ceballos Lascurán, 1983).
Ecotourism consists of traveling through natural areas without disturbing them, with the purpose to enjoy, appreciate and study its natural attractive (views, wild flora and fauna) as well as cultural manifestation that could be encountered in the region.
Many could get the concept of Ecotourism confused with nature or adventure tourism, but there are several important distinctions that make it impossible to use the terms interchangeable.
The main characteristics of Ecotourism are:
- Minimum impact to the environment.
- Participation with local communities.
- Education for conservation.
- Maximize the pouring of funds into the community.
The moment Ecotourism becomes a way of life that covers their financial needs, it educates and foments the communities that live in those places with exceptional natural richness to become their most fervent advocates.
